Coastal Bridge Repair for Marine Corrosion in Bourne, Massachusetts
Churchill Engineering provided structural steel fabrication and bridge repair on the Shore Road Bridge over the Pocasset River in Bourne, Massachusetts, where the coastal bridge was suffering from advanced corrosion driven by long-term exposure to the marine environment. CEI fabricated and installed additional stringers between floor beams and added purlins above the stringers to strengthen the deck framing. Where section loss in the framing supporting the pedestrian walk had become severe, the existing concrete sidewalk and its supporting steel were temporarily shored, removed, and replaced with new steel framing, a new bridge rail, and a close-mesh grating walking surface. Corroded sections of the open deck grating supporting vehicular traffic were cut out and replaced, and minor concrete and masonry repairs were completed at the bridge seat and abutment walls.
Structural Steel Fabrication & Remedial Repairs on the Pocasset River Bridge
Coastal bridges across Barnstable County and the South Shore face the same accelerated corrosion exposure as the Shore Road structure. As consulting engineers and structural repair contractors serving eastern Massachusetts, CEI evaluated the distress, designed the corrective steel framing repairs, and self-performed the field work under direct supervision of an in-house professional structural engineer registered in the Commonwealth.
